Important Update on Weight Loss Injections (Mounjaro)
We’ve had a high number of appointments asking about weight loss injections like Mounjaro.
Just a reminder: these injections are not routinely available on the NHS unless you meet strict national criteria.
To qualify for Mounjaro on the NHS in 2025, patients must have:
- BMI over 40
AND
- At least 4 of the following conditions:
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- High cholesterol (hyperlipidaemia)
- History of heart attack or stroke (ASCVD)
If you meet these criteria, you’ll need a referral to the Secondary Care Weight Management Service. General practices within Coventry and Warwickshire ICB are NOT able to prescribe this for weight loss.
If eligible as outlined above, the hospital team will then:
- Review your eligibility
- Arrange access to the medication if funded
- Offer support with lifestyle and long-term weight management
Please only book an appointment if you think you may meet the criteria.
