Getting to know... Dr Sasha Darwazeh

I have been a GP Partner at Woodside Medical Centre for five years and originally trained here as a GP Registrar, which is why I am passionate about Woodside being a teaching practice. I am the practice Diabetes Lead, Cancer Lead and IT Lead and also work as the Parental Leave Lead GP for Coventry and Warwickshire, supporting GPs during and after parental leave. Outside of work, I am a mum and enjoy reading, pilates, and walking my dog.

Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Our PPG helps shape practice services and improves patient experience. If you're interested in joining or want to learn more, speak to reception. Everyone is welcome — your input can make a real difference to our patients and practice.

Health Focus: Chronic Disease Reviews

Why Your Diabetes Checks Matter

If you have diabetes, attending your regular review is vital. Without routine checks, diabetes can increase the risk of:

  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Kidney problems
  • Nerve damage
  • Sight loss and foot complications

Your review helps us:

  • Monitor blood sugar (HbA1c)
  • Check blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Review medications
  • Support healthy lifestyle changes

Please book your annual review when invited — early checks prevent serious complications.

Protected Learning Time (PLT) – Practice Closures

To support staff development and quality of care, the practice will close for PLT FROM 1PM on:

  • Wednesday 11th February 2026
  • Wednesday 11th March 2026
  • Wednesday 15th April 2026

This is for staff training. We'll respond to any queries within core hours.

If you need urgent medical help while we're closed:

  • Call 111 (non-emergency health advice)
  • Call 999 in a medical emergency

February is Heart Month

Looking after your heart is one of the best ways to protect your long-term health. You can reduce your risk of heart disease by:

  • Checking and controlling your blood pressure
  • Taking statins as prescribed to manage cholesterol
  • Keeping diabetes well controlled, if you have it
  • Not smoking — stopping at any age makes a difference
  • Eating a balanced diet, including fruit, vegetables and whole grains
  • Staying active, aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity each week

Small changes can have a big impact. If you're due a health check, blood pressure review or diabetes review, please book when invited.
